Take Note

12X12 layout Flair Madeline Fox Noted Kit September 2012 Kit Studio Calico

I have a two pages to share with Scraptastic's Noted Kit , one of the kit choices for September 2012. My first layout features a pretty picture of my middle son's fraternity house. Alternate titles could be "Looks Are Deceiving" or "You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover". It looked so elegant from the outside, but inside there was quite a bit of renovation work still being done. There were new bathrooms and showers and an updated kitchen, but Chris' room was four cinderblock walls and a sandy cement floor! Uh-oh. He would spend the weekend installing wood-look laminate tiles and putting together his bed, desk, and bookcase.

Here's my page, with the deceptively elegant facade of the Delta Sigma Phi house. Hopefully, with the renovations complete, the common rooms newly furnished, and Chris' room set up, it should now look less like Animal House. I'll definitely need pictures.

Punching a border, the triangular scraps caught my eye and ended up as confetti on my page:

I love how these wood veneer pieces help to tell my story:

There's a bit of misting, inking, and stamping going on here:

Patterned papers are Studio Calico, bits and pieces are Elle's Studio, and flags are October Afternoon. Almost everything on this page comes from the Scraptastic September kit, Noted. Exceptions are the car veneer and number strips which were in Scraptastic's September kit, Just Beachy, and the foam letters from American Crafts.

My second page with the Noted kit recalls the games we played on vacation this year, and a new favorite, The Game of Things. My youngest turned out to be one fabulous player, confounding everyone! He was our "Game Boy":

I love this beautiful paper which forms the base of my page. In fact, journaling was cut into strips so that the background paper could peek from behind. I couldn't bear covering up too much of the pretty design. Here are a couple of closeups:

In the second detail shot, you can see that two of the little flags were tucked behind the flair button and tied with twine. I love all the little accents included with these kits. It makes creating an interesting page easy and fun. I hope you take away some inspiration today.

Have fun creating!

Love the first LO especially — from the triangle confetti and foam alphas to the three numbered sections with the story told in embellies. Cute photo of your “game boy” on the second LO. I like all the layers of matting and embellies.
