Celebrate Good Times

12X12 layout August 2012 Kits Echo Park Madeline Fox Mister Huey The Story Begins Kit

Creating starbursts out of patterned paper is a popular trend right now, one that I wanted to try myself. I had the perfect opportunity with the layout below. It seemed like such a great way to use the long patterned paper scraps left over from the last page I created with Scraptastic's August kit, The Story Begins

At first I set the page up with the starburst design at the top,

but it seemed too orderly, and I didn't know where to put my title. The thin white lettering that I had planned to use would be lost over the colorful patterned paper rays. Turning the page sideways would leave me with a better place to put the title as well as more room for embellishments along the bottom, especially after adding a rectangle of patterned paper and large doily.

Finally I had somewhere for my photo to rest:

And it all comes together:

I added chipboard letters, flowers and an envelope from my stash to complete this page, but all of the patterned papers, the kraft cardstock and tags, stickers, chipboard banners, and baker's twine are from The Story Begins kit

Here is a favorite part of my page:

Two of the chipboard banner pieces, covered with patterned paper, were layered for a very dimensional looking addition to my title. It's a small detail but I love how it appears as if the banner is wrapping itself around the two hearts.

Next week I will have another page with this kit. Oddly enough, it was the first one I began with The Story Begins kit, but the last one I completed!

I agree that the chipboard banners turned out absolutely wonderfully. Turning the page on its side was a perfect design choice.

I love the look of your starburst and have yet to make a page with one. I also love what you did with the chipboard banners from the kit… I didn’t really know what to do with them and now I do! ;)

I love that you interspersed the pp with kraft — it kept the look from being too busy. And turning it on it’s side was the perfect solution to where to put everything else! The tags and twine and your little envelope are such nice additions.
